Science Island Competition [2016]

The National Science + Innovation Centre at Nemunas Island is conceived of as a dynamic point of intersection at multiple levels. The first is as an urban connector, as Nemunas Island is posed to become the connective node between the surrounding neighbourhoods of Senamiestis, Naujamiestis, and Aleksotas. Secondly, it is the place where the great minds of Kaunas and beyond will come together to celebrate and embrace the natural world, exchange ideas and collaborate together. At a conceptual level, it is the intersecting point of the exhibition themes; the “Human”, the “Machine,” and “Nature/Ecology.”

Nemunas Island will become the new critical point of convergence within the city of Kaunas and will catalyze a new era in research and innovation in Lithuania. The new centre and urban connection plan will be the nucleus of this movement.

This competition entry was produced by LeeAnn Pallett Smith, David Butterworth, Shawna Seligman, & Aurelie Amable.
